🔄 System Comparison
Different calculation systems give different number values to some letters. Choose the system that matches your tradition:
- Eastern (Mashriqi): Traditional system used in most Arab countries – the most common method
- Western (Maghribi): Common in North Africa including Morocco, Algeria, and Tunisia
- Sequential: Modern system where letters are numbered 1-28 in alphabetical order
- Ibn Arabi: A classical Abjad calculation method historically attributed to Ibn Arabi
What Is the Abjad Calculator?
The Abjad calculator turns Arabic and Urdu letters into their traditional numeric values and adds them into one total — the Abjad value, also known as the Adad value, Hisab al-Jummal, or Ilm ul Adad. Each of the 28 Arabic letters carries a fixed number from 1 to 1000 in the classical Abjad al-Kabir order, so a short name such as محمد (Muhammad) comes to 92.
How Do You Read Your Abjad Value Result?
When you press Calculate, three things appear: the total Abjad value in the result card, a letter-by-letter breakdown that lists every counted letter with a running total, and the system that produced it. Each breakdown row shows one letter, its number, and the total so far, so you can verify the whole calculation by hand — nothing is hidden or rounded.
In short: type a name, choose a system, and press Calculate. Use the Urdu keyboard for Urdu letters, or Roman → Arabic to type in English.

How Are Abjad Values Calculated? (Method & Accuracy)
Every Abjad value is simple addition of fixed letter numbers — letter order never changes the total. This calculator applies the documented values for each system with a few consistent rules:
- Default system: Mashriqi (Eastern), the most widely used order.
- Ta marbuta (ة) is counted as 5.
- Diacritics (harakat) such as َ ِ ُ are stripped before counting — they carry no value.
- Urdu letters (پ چ ٹ ڈ ڑ ژ گ ک ں ہ ھ ے) are supported and mapped to their base values.
- Text is normalized (NFKC) so different keyboards produce the same total.
Abjad Calculator FAQs
What is the Abjad value of Bismillah?
Bismillah ir-Rahman ir-Rahim (بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم) totals 786 in the Mashriqi system — the number often written on vehicles, shops, and cards. Type any other phrase to get its own total instead.
Can I calculate a whole phrase or verse, not just one name?
Yes. Enter a single word, a full name, or a complete phrase; spaces and line breaks are ignored and every letter is added into one running total, so short and long entries both work.
Why are some characters not counted?
Only Arabic-script letters carry an Abjad value. Latin letters, digits, punctuation, and emoji have none, so they are simply skipped and never change the total.
Does the calculator predict the future or show compatibility?
No. The value is plain arithmetic on a fixed letter table. It does not measure luck, character, compatibility, spiritual rank, or future events; for religious guidance, please consult a qualified scholar.
Is my text private, and does it work offline?
Yes to both. Every calculation runs locally in your browser — nothing is uploaded or saved — so the tool keeps working even without a connection once the page has loaded.
Is the Abjad calculator free, and does it work on any device?
Yes. It is completely free with no sign-up and no limits, and it works the same on phones, tablets, and desktops, with an interface available in eight languages.
